In 2018, the municipal government of El Nido in partnership with the DENR-Protected Area Office, Malampaya Foundation Inc, El Nido Resorts, and El Nido Foundation are conducting information, education campaigns in each barangay surrounding El Nido.
The IEC presentations communicate key local government policies on issues such as climate change, water-borne illnesses, plastic usage, solid waste management, and materials recovery facilities. Representatives of the LGU have observed increased awareness and knowledge regarding proper segregation of solid waste after conducting IECs in primary and secondary schools.
The LGU’s vision for El Nido is as follows: “By 2025, El Nido will be a world class destination, a home to God-fearing people enjoying a better quality of life, opportunities, services and friendly-environment with dynamic leadership and participatory governance.” The LGU also hopes El Nido will be a municipal model for decreased use of plastic waste.
